The best quiet / value balance

Achieving absolute PC silence is not the cheapest way of buying a PC as Nofan's incredible IcePipe cooler demonstrates. However, for customers who are prepared to accept a very small amount of running noise, we are delighted to offer the Serenity Value which is a fully-built PC system, ready to go. It is designed with performance and quietness in mind, using components which we feel offer the best balance of speed, quietness and value. The machine can be configured to your exact specification and offers, as you would expect, incredibly quiet operation which is barely audible.

Top Performance and Reliability

The PC itself doesn't compromise on performance, and can be built pre-installed with up to 32 gigabytes of memory and an Intel Haswell CPU. Famous for its excellent performance/value balance, the Core i5 and i7 processors have a quad-core architecture and under heavy loading, will automatically "Turbo Boost" their clock speed. We also offer the Core i3 processor for cost-conscious customers. Regarding memory, we supply a minimum of 4GB to ensure that the machine's performance is not bottlenecked, although upgrading to 8GB or more will ensure that it has plenty to spare and will always offer excellent responsiveness even when running multiple applications simultaneously. We are now also offering our systems with Ubuntu Linux pre-installed.

Clean Build™ Promise

The price of many pre-built PCs these days is often supported by cash kickbacks from software companies who pay hardware manufacturers to pre-install limited or trial versions of their software and then hope that the customer pays to upgrade to the full version. The downside to this approach is that the new PC comes pre-loaded with a lot of "junkware" which bloats the operating system and can cause severe performance degradation.

Here at Quiet PC we believe that customers have every right to expect the best possible performance from a brand new PC, so every system we build comes with our Clean Build™ promise. We install the operating system (if you order one), motherboard drivers, OS updates and (for Windows 7 only) Microsoft Security Essentials - that's it. You won't be pestered by pop-ups and nag screens and you can get on with using your new PC immediately without having to uninstall lots of junkware first. Your new machine will boot in super-quick time and will stay running quickly for many months and years to come.

Storage considerations

When specifying your new PC's storage options using our system configurator below, you will be offered a choice of drives which vary in price and capacity. There are two primary types of storage. A conventional hard disk drive (HDD) offers huge storage capacity for a low price, but it won't be especially fast and it will generate a certain amount of running noise since it contains a constantly-rotating spindle. A solid state drive (SSD) on the other hand, offers tremendous speed and absolutely silent operation, but it will cost more than an HDD for any given capacity.

So if you need a lot of storage space (for videos or large quantities of digital photos for example), then we would recommend an HDD. On the other hand, if you prefer silence and speed (especially boot-up speed), then an SSD would be a better choice. Of course you can have more than one drive, so you could have the best of both worlds by choosing one of each! And finally, we do offer the option of enclosing HDD(s) in an acoustic enclosure called a Smart Drive - this will significantly reduce the running noise of a hard disk.

Free hardware support and fully inclusive warranty

We offer free hardware technical support for as long as you own the machine. This support covers any hardware query or problem, including advice on maintenance and upgrades. We regret we can't offer software support or training so we would recommend contacting the relevant software vendor in this instance. Support for Ubuntu can be obtained through online forums or on a commercial basis from Canonical Ltd.

Our hardware warranty runs for two years and is offered on a "collect and return" basis, meaning that you don't need to worry about getting the machine back to us - we will instruct our courier to collect it from you on a day of your choosing, then after we have checked and repaired it we will send it back to you by express courier at our expense. In addition, unlike many other PC suppliers, we have an "open-case" policy which means you are free to open the machine and perform your own minor modifications or upgrades without worrying that your warranty might be affected.

feedback on pc

,

Performs slightly faster than my previous Dell Inspiron 530n. However the key thing for me was whether I could run Linux Debian 6 Jessie on it. This wasn't something QPC could confirm so I took a chance. After a few weeks I can confirm it all does work rather well so far. The only main teething issue was sound over the HDMI monitor connection. This required me to switch the default soundcard in the software with: "pacmd set-default-sink 0" (via a startup .desktop file in .config/autostart ). QPC do sell with Ubuntu Linux and I suspect customers going for Ubuntu could benefit from the above tip.

How quiet? Very much better than my previous machine, though not entirely silent (as expected). I have two HDD in a raid1 and together they do make a bit of a knocking noise which because the very subdued fan noise seems more prominent. But overall it is very quiet. If I were to try recording sound in the same room the noise level could be an issue, but in terms of my personal feelings about the noise level I am delighted.

Build quality seems fantastic. The packaging was incredible. It is great the warranty allowed me to look inside!

It's hard to review the PC itself as you choose your own components, so you know what you're getting. I configured "Quiet PC Serenity Office" for gaming and work. For what I require, it's perfect. The PC was built and delivered well within the 7 days stated, and arrived very well packaged with plenty of padding.

I've been using it for more than two months now, and have had no problems. It sits under my desk, and it's silent/extremely quiet, UNLESS I put the case fans on to high - then I hear a noticeable hum, but nothing too intrusive. However, even in the recent hot weather, I've had no need to change the setting, as the graphics card has its own fan, and neither the graphics card nor the CPU has got hot.

I bought the PC to replace a broken Mac and couldn't face going back to a noisy PC, so I'm happy!

Customer service from QuietPC was excellent.

Great product delivered to the other side of the planet...

I am in Australia and ordered a Quiet PC from the UK (about 17,000 km or 10,500 miles). The unit arrived on time, expertly packaged in a sturdy double-box arrangement with shock absorbing material separating the inner and outer boxes - perfect!

The build was excellent with all cables neatly tied and routed. The components are of excellent quality, and most importantly delivers on the quiet promise.

Communications from Quiet PC were also excellent. There was a video driver problem with Windows 8.1 secure boot during the build (the system was built the day after Windows 8.1 release, and the same problem affected 10,000's people worldwide). Importantly problems were solved and the reason for the extended build-time explained.

I suppose the customisation options mean that no matter what you start with you can end up with something resembling any of the other categories. Mine was no exception. The system started in the Serenity Office category and was configured to:

- Deep Silence 1 Black Ultimate Low Noise PC Case (nice case, heavy!)
- GA-H87-HD3 LGA1150 ATX Motherboard (enough for my application)
- i7 4770K 3.5GHz 84W HD4600 8MB Quad (crazy fast without crazy price)
- 16GB Standard 1600MHz CL11 DDR3 RAM (don't waste money on 2300+ MHz RAM)
- Trinity Ultra-Quiet CPU Cooler (getting 55-65C under 100% video rendering)
- NX-5000 V1 550W Real Silent Compact ATX (is definitely quiet)
- 530 Series 240GB 6Gb/s SSD, SSDSC2BW240A401 (Win 8.1 = 16 second boot times)
- Sound Blaster Z PCIe High Performance Sound Card (using it for ASIO drivers)
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Graphics Card 2GB GDDR5 (V.Quiet during normal use)
- Windows 8.1 64-bit Full Version (Desktop user dual screens, this one rocks)

Highly recommended company, I will be back :)
