Zalman VF3000 Series High Performance VGA Coolers
“Zalman's new flagship VGA cooler, the VF3000 series for high-end ATI and Nvidia graphics cards.”
Introducing Zalman's new flagship VGA cooler - the VF3000. The VF3000 is available in three different versions, the VF3000A, VF3000N and the VF3000F-580.
All coolers feature: five 6mm heatpipes (to increase heat transfer from the GPU), a variety of heatsinks (to cool the surrounding components), dual 92mm LED fans and a FANMATE 2 (to control the fan speed).
Features
- Also cools peripheral components
- Dual 92mm LED fans
- Five 6mm heatpipes for quick heat transfer
- Supplied with FANMATE 2 for fan speed control
- Excellent performance for high end vga cards *
- Excellent performance for nVidia GTX580/570 **
- * VF3000A, VF3000N only
- ** VF3000F-580 only
The five heatpipes are connected to over 110 aluminium fins which are designed to cool high end ATI or Nvidia GPUs. The fins are then cooled by two 92mm LED fans. These fans not only cool the GPU but also the surrounding components on the graphics card. This is done along with several heatsinks that are to be attached to certain components on the card. The coolers are supplied with specially designed heatsinks to make this happen.
Compatibility
The VF3000A is for ATI graphics cards only and has been specifically designed for the Radeon HD6870, HD6850, HD5830, HD5850 and HD5870 cards, but it it also compatible with new ATI cards such as the HD6870. The VF3000N is for Nvidia Geforce GTX260, GTX275, GTX280 and GTX285 cards. And finally the VF3000F-580 is only compatible with nVidia GTX580 and GTX570.
It is also important to note that once these coolers have been installed, the adjacent PCI slot will be unusable due to the width of the cooler.

I purchased this for my ATI XFX HD6870. The stock fan on idle kept the GPU at a constant 33 degrees, but under load the temps shot up as high as 80 deg (granted I run all my games on ultra high settings at 1900 x 1200). A little high although still within limits.
It took about 15 mins in total to modify this fan and fit to the GPU a bit fiddly but no real problems. Now the idle is at a constant 24 deg (yes that's 9 deg cooler) and under load for over an hour I'm lucky if it gets as high as 40 deg.
Was it worth it? Oh yes!
Running ASUS Mobo, AMD hex core chip, 12Gb Ram...... yada yada yada all in a HAF X case.
Great piece of kit so buy one.
Oh and not forgetting great service from Quiet PC. Ordered, shipped and delivered all within a reasonable time especially at this time of the year.

Installed on a 5850, this cooler provided adequate cooling, easily equalling the stock cooler at the minimum speed setting. At this minimum setting, it was inaudible above the CPU and case fan. At high settings, it does get significantly louder, with maximum being very loud.
It can be installed by following the instructions using stick-on mini-heatsinks for the auxiliary chips (VRMs, memory), but alternatively also fits easily re-using the stock cooler's giant metal backplate as a sink for all those, with this cooler on top of that (my preferred configuration).
The fan connector can not be connected to the card fan header, so a spare motherboard fan header, or an adaptor to connect it to a PSU molex connector (not included) is required. The fan speed can therefore not automatically be controlled by the card.
The two fans glow blue, brighter the higher the fan speed setting. As far as I can tell, the glow can't be turned off.

Brilliant cooler, at lowest fan speed you will knock 15 - 20 degrees off the standard stock fan. Max speed a little noisy, but you won't need it on high. Only downside is that you have to have a cable hanging out your case for the fan, you can't simply connect the cable to the graphics board.
Very simple and quick to install once you have spent 20 minutes trying to get the screws off the original casing, this is well worth the money
