Zalman ZM-MFC2 Multi Fan Controller

Zalman’s ZM-MFC2 is a fan controller with a difference. As well as being able to control up to four fans the most unique feature of the ZM-MFC2 is that it also provides a real time display of the power the PC is consuming.

The Current/Voltage Sensor (CVS) is what makes displaying the power consumption possible. The power cord from the plug socket connects to the CVS, this then splits into two cables. One cable is like an extension of the power cord that connects to the PSU. The other cable looks to have a USB plug on the end. This is not a normal USB plug, it is called the CVS Cable. The CVS Cable connects to the CVS Extension Cable which in turn plugs into the back of the ZM-MFC2. This may seem complicated, but in practice it is very simple. The image below will help (click to enlarge).

Although the ZM-MFC2 can display power consumption, the fan control aspect has not been overlooked. It is able to control three 3-pin fans and one PWM 4-pin fan. There are also four temperature sensors, which can be placed virtually anywhere inside the system for accurate temperature readings. The reading of each sensor is shown on the LCD screen.

Adjusting the fan speed is very easy. All you need to do is press the mode button until the desired fan is flashing and then turn the dial to either increase or lower the RPM. The new RPM is then immediately shown on the LCD display.

So to summarise, if you ever wanted to know what power your PC actually requires along with the ability to control up to four fans with temperature readings, the ZM-MFC2 is just the product you need!

One way to keep the noise down without replacing all your fans is to use a fan controller such as this. One button lets you select which fan to change, and the dial enables you to fine tune its speed for the best balance between noise and cool. It’ll also monitor four different temperatures and your system’s overall power consumption.

The ZM-MFC2 has a clear manual and great build quality. It’s also one of the most useful products we tested and allows you to control the speed of up to four fans (three 3-pin, one 4-pin).

Four probes allow you to monitor temperatures inside the case, and you can even connect the device to an external mains pass-through box to show how much power your PC is using.

We checked this against readings from our standalone power meter, and they were extremely close, so it clearly works well.
