Streacom ST-IRPB IR Receiver PCB only (no Remote Handset)

See also the Streacom ST-IRRC IR Receiver and Remote Control Handset

If you want to use a third party remote control handset with any Streacom case then all you need is this RC6 compatible IR receiver. The Streacom IRPB receiver is designed to fit internally in all Streacom HTPC chassis and is perfect for customers whom already own a fancy media centre remote control. Comprising of a receiver module and cables, it quickly and easily allows your media centre to be operated via any standard RC6 compatible infra-red remote control.

A free software application for the IRRC module is available which allows all remote control key functions to be remapped. This new tool greatly expands the flexibility of the IRRC, allowing users to customise the action of every button on the remote from a set of standard commands as well as define new custom actions such as launching specific applications. The software can be downloaded from the link on the right. It is compatible with all current IRRC PCBs and will run on all Windows environments.

Customer Reviews

Doesn't have discrete IR codes!

,

This is a very nice piece of kit. It is affordable, easy to install in Streacom's cases, responds really well to key presses and has a great range. Everything you would expect from an IR receiver.

Unfortunately despite that, it is next to useless as it doesn't seem to use discrete IR codes which means pressing any button on the many other remote controls in my house, even ones like volume up or down on my TV remote, are received by this and cause the machine in which it is installed to wake from S3. This is a total deal breaker for me and have had to go back to my external chunky RC6 USB dongle as I can't have my HTPC waking up all the time :(

For other Linux XBMC users like myself, it should also be noted that in its default set-up the power button command on this receiver is defined as a macro that presses a combination of keys including ALT+F4 to shut down Windows. As stated above, Streacom do provide software to remap the buttons, so this can be changed, but this software is unfortunately Windows-only!

Good range and very responsive would buy again

,

I used this with a Microsoft RC6 remote that I already had. It gives good range and feels responsive. I found the unit easy to setup although you do have to download the instructions as they are not included. Windows 7 finds drivers automatically. This device is designed to fit Streacom cases but it can be fitted to other cases if you have good case modding skills. I fitted it to a Lian-Li 7fn case, inside the base of the front fan/case removable grill, using sticky Velcro squares stacked on top of each other to support the pcb. I then made a homemade usb extension. Works well and would buy again.
