Nexus Prominent R Premium Case With Noise Absorption Foam

The Nexus Prominent R features almost everything you would want from a case, including Acoustic Material, SATA HDD Dock, USB3.0 and much more.

The Nexus Prominent R case is a premium chassis excellent for building a very quiet computer. With its tool-less installation features, it is a breeze to install components or to modify your set-up. The sleek professional looks and high quality materials make the case fit to blend into any environment. The black mesh front and top give the Prominent R a distinguished look, as well as to improve airflow. There is even a SATA dock to make backing-up or transferring files from HDD to HDD very easy.

Features

  1. USB3.0 and SATA HDD dock
  2. Tool-less installation
  3. Supplied with two Real Silent fans
  4. Elegant black interior and exterior
  5. Acoustically lined side panels
  6. Mesh front for better airflow

Nexus installed two of their excellent silent case fans into the Prominent R. One 120mm fan is fitted on the rear to exhaust the warm air, while the other is fitted in the front as air intake. Some isolating padding where the PSU is fitted prevents resonance. There are ventilation holes (and room for a fan) at the bottom of the case and the thick rubber feet keep the vents elevated from the floor to allow airflow to enter from the bottom. The rubber feet also help reduce any vibration that may be produced.

Sata Hard Drive Dock

The Nexus Prominent R case has a SATA dock on top of the case which can be very useful for easy file transfer. This means the side of the case does not need to be opened to install a HDD; a SATA HDD can just be plugged in!

Noise absorption

The Nexus Prominent R case is fitted with noise absorption material. It is a premium rubber-like material with great noise reductions characteristics. The material really helps to reduce the overall noise of the system. As always, using only quiet components is recommended to keep any noise to a minimum.

Tool-less installation

Virtually all components can be mounted inside the case without any tools. PCI slots and optical drives are fixed with tool-less solutions.

HDD-tray with vibration absorbers

The HDD trays also use a tool-free installation method. Squeezing the HDD tray allows for a 3.5” HDD to be installed. Also the HDD’s mounting is fitted with rubber to reduce resonance and vibration. If you plan to install 2.5” HDD or SSD, screw holes are provided.

PSU Bumpers and Velcro strap

Nexus has attached padding on the areas where the PSU would normally touch the chassis. They have also put some patches on the bottom and side of the case and gasket around the PSU opening at the back of the case. These “bumpers” are made of soft foam/rubber-like materials and absorb vibration caused by the PSU which prevents any unwanted noise. Finally, to create a firm mounting for the PSU, a velcro strap is available to ensure the PSU is tightly installed.

Not bad, but...

,

Not bad, but it could do with a manual to help with working out what comes apart and where things go. The caddy thing for the hard drives was a pain, i have IDE hard drives, i don’t know if they are longer than SATA ones but they were a pain to fit. you had to put them in, what i would consider, backwards so the cables and fitting are on the opposite side of the case, this is because the plastic clips that you push to fit it are in the way of the power and IDE cable slots. and there is not a lot of room around the other side :(.

Also this case puts the PSU at the bottom so some of my cables ended up being a bit too short to reach the DVD drive, lucky i had an extending bit. but something to think about.

If you are looking for a case to make a silent system, then i would look elsewhere, sure it has noise absorbing foam on the sides, but the top, bottom, and both ends are made from what looks like a stronger version of chicken wire which is useless for noise absorbing. The case looks good and i now get a much better airflow and lower temps.

Got the usual great service from QuietPC, ordered it on a Thursday and arrived next morning :)
