Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme GTX280 for nVIDIA GTX200 series Ultra

Ultimate Cooling Weapon for Enthusiast-Grade Graphics Cards

Designed to offer a powerful VGA cooler for maximum overclocking potential, the Accelero XTREME GTX 280 is compatible with the nVIDIA GeForce GTX 260, GTX 280 and GTX 285.

Features

  1. Extreme cooling performance - up to 250 Watts
  2. Three ultra quiet 92mm PWM fans with low noise impeller
  3. Efficient heat dissipation via five heatpipes
  4. Patented fan holder eliminates buzzing sounds
  5. RAM and voltage regulator cooling
  6. Pre-applied MX-2
  7. SLI compatible

Extreme Cooling Performance

The Accelero XTREME GTX 280 is equipped with three 92mm PWM fans that run from 1,000 to 2,000 RPM. Together with five heatpipes, the Accelero XTREME GTX 280 achieves 250 Watt cooling capacity, 31°C lower than the stock cooler! This exceptional cooling performance will not only bring enthusiasts an ultimate overclocking experience, but it also extends the service life of your valuable graphics card.

Larger fans

Even with three 92mm fans, the Accelero XTREME GTX 280 manages to keep the noise level extremely low. Arctic Cooling’s signature low noise impeller and patented fan holder are equipped to lower the noise level. Controlled by PWM signal, the fans run just the necessary speed in order to offer sufficient cooling at the lowest possible noise level. Even at full fan speed, the Accelero XTREME GTX 280 generates only 0.5 Sone of noise, a much quieter and better performance than the standard cooler.

With an incomparable cooling/noise ratio, the Accelero XTREME GTX 280 is without a doubt one of the best aftermarket coolers for nVIDIA GeForce GTX 260, GTX 280 and GTX 285.

INSTALLATION GUIDE - Please be aware that if your graphics card has a frame around the GPU then this will need to be removed before fitting this cooler. Please look here for more information. Unfortunately this is not mentioned in the instructions supplied with the cooler.

PLEASE NOTE - Arctic Cooling measure noise levels in Sone (loudness) instead of dB (sound intensity). The loudness depends upon your ears response curves and tells you how noticeable a certain noise is.

Customer Reviews

Great cooler

,

Installed on an MSI GTX260 with no issues. Is in use as a HTPC connected to a 40” LCD. Use EVGA’s precision tool to alter the fan speed to 30% and enjoy silence with a core temp of 40C.

It’s worth noting that both the heat spreaders have a blue plastic film attached. REMOVE THIS BEFORE INSTALLATION.

Simply Fantastic, although a few small problems.

Well there are a couple cons but tons of pros. To start off, this thing can be a pain to install if you move too fast. Do yourself a favour, lay all parts out and separate everything out, especially the screws as there are two different sets and mixing them up causes install problems. Read the directions over twice to make sure you know what’s going to happen!

Next, the adhesive circles for the 285 are NOT in the package. However if you lay the heatsink down and place the rubber washers on top and carefully align the card they will fit right up no problem. Aside from this, everything about this card is magnificent! It cuts down the idle cooling by almost 20C from 55C to 35C when I put the fans to 100%. This cooler runs amazingly well and gets the job done above and beyond what I expected. There is NO noticeable noise even with the fans maxed out. After install it does take up one extra expansion slot so just be careful. Really helps for overclocking as well! Definitely recommended!

A good cooler but some flaws when fitting

,

After a few niggles fitting this to my Sparkle GTX 275 (Nvidia stock cooler) I did get some excellent cooling results. My temps (using FurMark stability test) went from 41c idle and 91c load on the stock cooler to 33c idle and 57c load (fan speed 40%) with the Accelero Xtreme in my Antec 902 which impressed me greatly. What didn’t impress me was that I had to modify the RAM/NVivo 2 plate by drilling a hole in it to allow for clearance from a piece sticking up too far from the pcb but I suppose all the cards stated to be compatible will have differences. Also I used the Scythe VGA heat sink kit available on this site as they are far superior to the ones supplied. I spent a long time prepping the chips and VRM’s just to find that the supplied ram sinks didn’t stick very well. I would however recommend this product for the cooling results but caution you to some compatibility and fitting issues.

Accelero Xtreme GTX280

I’ve just finished installing this cooler on an Asus ENGTX285/HTDP/1GD3, a standard “285” card. As this is a “285” the installation instructions don’t come in the box. Downloaded those from Arctic Cooling and discovered the VRMs and RAM didn’t need heatsinks as long as the fan speed was above 80% at full graphics card load - just as well as the sticky pads on the RAM heatsinks are about as sticky as some not very sticky stuff!

But UNFORGIVABLY, as another reviewer here discovered, after assembly exactly as per the instructions the cooler didn’t touch the GPU. That required removing two brackets on the cooler, flattening them slightly and reinstalling. So without customer modification this unit is not fit for purpose which means it only gets 6 stars instead of the 10 it might deserve if Arctic Cooling had paid more attention to detail. Sorry.

Unfortunately Arctic Cooling did not mention in their instructions that the frame around the GPU needs to be removed. This has caused the above problem. We therefore highly recommend that users remove the frame - click here for more information.
