Zalman ZM-NC2000 Ultra-Quiet Notebook Cooler
With computing power ever on the increase, heat issues can affect laptop computers just as much as conventional desktop machines. Because such high-power components are squeezed inside such a small case, it is inevitable that the heat has to escape somewhere, and invariably manufacturers resort to small, high speed fans to keep their components cool.
Even then, safe cooling is not always assured - especially if the machine is used on soft surfaces such as carpets, duvets or trouser-legs! Anyone who has ever used a laptop literally "on their lap", will know just how hot these computers can get.
As the world-respected leaders in desktop cooling solutions, Zalman have now designed cooling products specifically for laptop users: the ZM-NC2000 ultra-quiet notebook cooler. We think every laptop user should have one! They give peace of mind that your laptop will not overheat and crash (or melt!). They improve long-term reliability because the laptop is running cooler. In most cases, they cut down on the noise from your laptop fans, because the fans don't need to run as fast to maintain a safe temperature. Last but not least, they raise the rear of your laptop, making it much easier to type on its keyboard without worrying about wrist-strain.
The ZM-NC2000 comes with two centrifugal fans which give excellent airflow to the base of your laptop, with minimum noise. The speed of the fans can be adjusted according to how hot your machine is running and how quietly you would like the fans to run. The product comes in a stylish black finish and will accommodate the vast majority of laptops on the market with up to 20 inch screen size.
Because the fans are powered by USB, there are no extra power supplies or wires to worry about, other than one cable (included) which connects to a USB port on your PC or Macintosh. You don't lose a USB port because the cooler has one to replace the one being used on the machine (see picture). And because they are lightweight, the Zalman notebook coolers can easily be transported with your notebook so you can use them anywhere - not just in your office!

This is a very disappointing product. Even at the lowest setting the fans make a rumbling noise that is louder than the fans on the laptop. My guess is that, although this product may be good at cooling, the fans may be of a very low quality, hence the noise. It should certainly not be advertised as a 'ultra-quiet' cooler.
Sorry to hear about your disappointment. You must unfortunately have received a faulty unit so please contact us for an exchange or refund.

The Zalman cooler works beautifully. For most of the time I leave it on the lowest fan speed which is audible but not in any way annoying. If the laptop is working particularly hard I increase the Zalman's fan speed.
My laptop is a 15.5 inch display, Dell Inspiron 6400. This model of the Zalman cooler is big enough for a 20 inch laptop, but it's not too large for my laptop... there is about 1.5cm on each side and 2cm at the rear. The rubber pad that runs along the front of the cooler is perfectly positioned to catch the front feet of the laptop (so they sit behind the pad, not on top of it), with the front of the laptop aligned with the front edge of the cooler.
The top surface is a nice solid aluminium. The only downside is the base which is plastic and looks a little cheap. I don't use the fold-out feet, since the height of the base is fine without them. Overall: Highly recommended.

A stylish and stable cooling pad with two extra USB ports in both sides and a vent regulator.
The metal surface sure does get chilly even on the lower fan speed setting. Works like a charm and helps to keep the back of the notebook cooler. Does not significantly drop the temperature of my Acer 7540, but keeps it low and the computer fan is less noisy this way.
I'd say a good choice for a home laptop from all the cooling pads out there as it is very quiet.

I purchased the NC2000 over 18 months ago and have used it every day since. It is a brilliant piece of kit. I have a 17" Alienware laptop (dual core-2 graphics cards-2 sata drives). Before I purchased this I did my homework on what else was available and I'm glad I did too because not everything that glitters is gold. The first thing that hit me when I got it was how sleek and simple it looked, nice! Some people have said the plastic underside lets it down but it is a well made bit of plastic, not flimsy at all.
Once I plugged it in and turned it on I was shocked by how much cool air the thing pumped out. After sitting with my laptop on for an hour or so I found the cool air uncomfortable on my hands EXCELLENT! The cooler has a fan speed dial on the side (sweet) and a compartment to hide the usb cable in. The cable is hard to fit in the compartment and it would have been nicer to have a retractable cable. It's easy to break down and clean too.

I can highly recommend this cooler as it is whisper quiet you hardly think it is switched on. As the fan on my Acer 7720G always seem to run then slow down, but with this cooler on a medium speed it is not working over time. Top quality build as well.
Thank You Zalman.

I purchased this cooler to try to resolve the heat problems with my MacBook Pro 17". The whole laptop is one giant heat-sink, when running parallels with Vista etc. it gets very hot, typing becomes uncomfortable.
Let me say that this heat-sink does a fantastic job of keeping the laptop nice and cold. I can hardly feel any heat on it anymore, it actually feels like it is turned off. Typing is a delight again, my hands don't have to sweat anymore. Additionally, typing is more comfortable the keyboard elevated on the stand.
I ordered the black cooler, despite having a silver mac. Because the mac is so large I can only just see the bottom of the cooler stand, nothing else. The black actually looks cool against the silver anyway.
I thoroughly recommend this cooler to anyone who wants to keep their laptop 'near-switched-off' cold.
