In my quest for PC silence an SSD was next on the list. Linux OS installed (ArchBang (http://archbang.org/)-based on Arch Linux)
A super fast boot time of 9 seconds between Grub and Login! Excellent file transfer speeds as described. It is a strange but satisfying sensation not to have any HDD noises! Also there is a power and heat generation reduction. This together with a Scythe Ninja 3 CPU cooler in fanless mode makes a great silent and fast pc combo. When prices start to fall a bit I will definitely be purchasing an additional and larger Vertex SSD. This would have been a rating of 10 if the GB/Euro ratio had been better. I am sure this will come in time.
