Zalman CNPS14X High Performance Dual Heatsink CPU Cooler

Zalman have gone back to basics with the CNPS14X with the emphasis on function over style

For a while every new CPU cooler Zalman released seemed to have a bolder and brighter design than the previous one. Now Zalman have released the CNPS14X but this time the emphasis is on function rather than style. The U-shape, dual heat sink is designed to maximise the dissipation area. The aerodynamically constructed double-induction heat sink also helps to increase the airflow and maximise cooling performance, while the 140mm PWM fan maintains low noise levels of only 17 - 21dBA.

Features

  1. Powerful Cooling Performance
  2. 140mm PWM fan with low noise
  3. 6 U-Shaped dual heatpipe design
  4. Two additional 140mm fans can be installed (not supplied)
  5. Supplied with high performance ZM-STG2M thermal paste
  6. Compatible with Intel LGA2011/1155/1156/1366/775 and AMD FM1/AM3+/AM3/AM2+/AM2

Zalman’s unique sanding process provides excellent heat transfer between the base of the cooler and the top of the processor offering the very best heat transfer possible.

Additional Fans

Up to two additional 140mm fans can be installed in a ‘push-pull’ configuration for overclockers and power users.

Compatibility

The CNPS14X is compatible with a wide range of sockets including Intel Socket 2011, AMD Socket FM1 and most Intel, AMD platform.

Installation Considerations

The installation of the cooler requires an unobstructed space of 140mm(L), 126mm(W), and 159.3mm(H), with the CPU as a central reference point. Please check that components such as the optical drive, graphics card and PSU do not protrude into the required space. If the height of the memory is over 40mm after inserting it into the RAM slot, then one memory slot cannot be used due to obstruction by the heatsink.

Review

It’s definitely one of the quieter air coolers we’ve had on test for a while thanks to its single 140mm fan, and coolers marketed towards those looking for quiet computing will always come with a performance trade off. It’s not the easiest cooler to install, but for LGA1155 or even AM3+ users looking to apply gentler overclocks to their CPUs, the CNPS14X offers a good balance between price, noise and performance
