Before purchase, it is essential that you choose the correct cooler depending on which processor you intend to use it with. Compatible processors are Pentium III™ (socket 370) and PPGA/FC-PGA Celeron™ (slot 1). The following tables offer advice on product selection and then the products themselves are discussed.
Please note that these coolers are not compatible with the following processors: Intel® Pentium® II, Pentium® III SECC2, Pentium PRO® and Slot 1 (SECC) Celeron®. We regret that we have no Ultra-Quiet solutions for these processors.

AMD / PIII Flower Cooler CNPS6000 Series

This amazing and beautiful product is as versatile as it is effective. It will work on virtually any socketed CPU, AMD or Intel. We are recommend this Pentium 3 (socket 370) and Athlon XP+ series processors, where it will work fine for CPUs right up to the XP 3200+ and above. The heatsink consists of 56 flat copper fins, compressed very tightly together at one one end and clamped between two aluminium blocks. Two very strong hex head bolts are used to keep the assembly together, and once tightened, the base of the cooler is machined totally flat, and polished so it gleams, in order to gain the best possible heat transfer from the CPU. The fins fan out like petals on a flower, giving the absolute maximum possible surface area for effective heat dissipation.
You may be wondering how a fan is mounted on such a strangely-shaped heatsink. The answer is - it isn't! An Ultra-Quiet 92mm fan is supplied with the product but it is not mounted directly to the heatsink. Instead, it is suspended above it using a cleverly-designed adjustable bracket which affixes to the PC chassis by sharing the two or three screws which are used to secure PCI/AGP cards (see photographs below). Taking this approach allows a larger fan diameter (92mm) which means the fan blades can rotate slower to produce a given amount of airflow, hence less noise. In addition, no vibration is transmitted from the fan into the heatsink which is again good from a noise point of view, and is also better for the processor itself.

The Flower Cooler ultra-quiet 92mm fan is held in place using an adjustable bracket fastened onto the PCI/AGP card slots as shown (card installation is not affected). This gives exceptionally low noise levels, and no vibrations are transmitted to the heatsink and CPU. |
Installation considerations
The maximum weight for a heatsink is specified as 180g by Intel CPU (Socket 370)
and as 300g by AMD (Socket 462). Should a heatsink which exceeds the relevant
weight limit be installed in a computer, special care should be taken when the
computer is moved. Neither we nor
the manufacturer can be held responsible for any damage to a system or a CPU
occurring when a PC is moved with an overweight heatsink in situ.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES must a PC be transported by
courier with this heatsink in place. The heatsink must be removed from the CPU
before transporting the PC in order to prevent damage.
NOTE: Some motherboards have difficulty measuring low fan RPM speeds on coolers such as this one. The problem can sometimes be fixed by updating the motherboard BIOS to the latest version available on the motherboard manufacturer's website. However, with some motherboards, the problem remains. Regardless, this will not affect performance. In addition, some motherboards will not boot if the CPU fan speed cannot be measured, as a safety feature. After rotating the Fan Mate speed control fully clockwise to enable booting, this feature needs to be disabled in the BIOS setup (set "CPU Fan Detect" or similar to "Disabled").
NOTE: Please bear in mind that there must be no obstructions that stop the bracket from extending round over the heatsink. Some small ATX cases are not compatible with this cooler because the PSU can obstruct the bracket, which preventing installation. Check you case!
Product differences
The specifications of the CNPS6000 series flower coolers are identical,
except that the thermal resistance is 0.02°C/W higher for the CU version.
In practice this equates to a lower CPU running temperature of
around 3°C for a high-end system.

Intel FC-PGA Radial Fin Cooler
For pricing and availability, please click here or order at the top of the page
This product is designed for Intel PGA370 Pentium III and Celeron processors, also known as "Flip-Chip Pin Grid Array" CPUs, shown below. The product does not work with older Slot 1 Celerons. If your PC has an FC-PGA CPU mounted in a slocket (socket to slot) adapter, then please order this FC-PGA Radial Fin cooler.

The FC-PGA Radial Fin cooler is extremely easy to fit; simply hook one end of the clip over the plastic tab on the CPU socket, then move the cooler downward so that the other end approaches the plastic tab on the other side. The bright red thumb clip makes installation a breeze. Make sure the cooler is fitted the correct way around so that the middle of the cooler aligns with the raised die on the middle of the processor - if you get it the wrong way around, the cooler will not sit centrally.
This product has a copper core for excellent cooling and is good for all Intel FC-PGA Celeron and Pentium III CPUs up to and including 1.10 GHz.

Scythe Katana 2 Quiet CPU Cooler AMD/Intel
For pricing and availability, please click here or order at the top of the page
The slope shaped heatsink known as Katana CPU Cooler is now back and boasts improved performance to meet the higher cooling demands for all users. Three heatpipes and the latest CPU socket compatibility are build-in to offer value-for-money without any compromise in the performance!
OFCS - Oval Fin Contact Structure
Introducing the newly developed OFCS (Oval Fin Contact Structure) that achieves a greater contact area between the cooling fins and
heatpipes, which reduces heat transfer loss. Furthermore, by adopting the sloping fins this reduces the overall width of the cooler as well as providing the ability to direct the airflow to various motherboard components simultaneously whilst cooling the CPU.
VFMS - Versatile Fan Mounting System / 100mm Fan
By adapting the VFMS fan mounting system from Scythe’s popular Mine CPU Cooler, the default fan (100x100x25mm) can be easily exchanged to any other standard 25mm thick fan.
Four-Way Mounting
Four-way (direction) mounting is possible. This allows you to configure and optimise the airflow direction inside your chassis without any restrictions.
Universal Socket Compatibility with AM2
The Katana 2 CPU Cooler is compatible for socket 478/754/939/940/AM2 and LGA775. All in one solution for your PC system.
Installation instructions are supplied with the cooler to make installing the Katana very straightforward. Alternatively you can view the PDF here.

It may appear that the Katana is actually falling over but in fact it is like this on purpose. The heatsink has been angled at 70°. The slant allows the fan to blow air over the motherboard, aiding motherboard cooling. This improves system stability and prolongs component life.
Scythe’s engineering team designed the Katana with value, silence and performance in mind. They wanted to produce a cooler with as many features as possible without any compromise in performance. It seems that Scythe's engineering team have hit the nail on the head with the Katana!
