Nexus SM-8500B Black Quiet Wired Mouse
After the success of the wireless SM-8000 Nexus have now introduced a wired version, the SM-8500. The SM-8500 is a wired silent optical mouse which connects to your PC or laptop via a USB cable and has a total of 5 buttons.

People are so used to using a PC that they have become so acquainted with devices such as track pads and multi-touch displays, that they no longer need confirmation by an audible clicking noise. Everyone knows that when they have clicked or double clicked something, there is a graphical reaction of the clicking on the screen. Therefore Nexus feels you simply do not need a clicking-sound to confirm the action.
Comfortable shape and material
The Nexus Silent Mouse is a comfortable size and is an excellent mouse for desktop and laptop use, especially because of the small Nano receiver which you plug in to a USB port. It is so small that it does not need to be removed… just forget it’s there. Furthermore, the mouse is made from quality surface treatments so it feels good to use.
Patented Silent Switch technology
The switches used for the Silent Mouse have a patented construction and lack the “click” sound when pressed. You’ll be amazed how much more relaxing it is when this clicking sound has been removed from the working environment.

Great mouse. Very very silent. Thank you.
Not that perfect
Pros:
- The clicks have a muted sound and in this respect this mouse is indeed much more quiet than any of my previous mice (Microsoft, Logitech, HP). Cons:
- It is not inaudible - someone in the same room would still hear the clicking sound, although it would not be that disturbing as using a regular mouse.
- The left button is much louder than the right one. If it was at least as quiet as the right one, I would rate this mouse with four stars instead of three.
- The red light from the front split is leaking and gets projected onto my monitor. This is very unexpected and annoying - I will try to fix it with some black duct tape when I get one, but it may not be that easy, since I would have to cover all sides of the wheel properly.
- I’d prefer if it would be a bit larger so that the hand could rest comfortably on the mouse, but this is an individual preference. Summary:
- Don’t expect silent operation from this mouse and be prepared for design (and/or quality control) flaws manifesting themselves.
Good value
You can definitely hear the buttons, but instead of noisy clicks the sound is pleasantly muted. The wheel is not loud, but it feels cheap and is no more silent then a wheel on a generic mouse. The cord is a bit shorter than on my previous mouse, but shouldn’t be an issue in most cases.
Overall feel of the mouse is great, something I was not expecting considering the price. Recommended.
Best quiet mouse I have ever had
Very silent, fits perfect in the hand and handles very smooth. Only negative thing is that the buttons became harder to respond after 1.5 years of frequently use. But for this price that’s to be expected. Highly recommended.
what you see is what you get
What more would you expect from a 16usd quiet mouse. though not 100% silent, but you get quiet clicks, side tabs, wheelers. Doesn’t matter if it is not wireless or bulky or right handed. Got what I paid for. Great mouse for gaming at wee hours :)
great mouse!
Bought this to replace an old dell clicky thing, I needed something quiet as i work silly shifts in a shared house and the old mouse was real noisy. Not 100% silent but certainly better than a ‘normal’ mouse. Feels good in the hand too.
