Renowned for producing some of the world best CPU coolers, Zalman have now released their newest flagship cooler, the CNPS12X. It is the world’s first “out of the box” triple fan cooler and is compatible with Intel latest LGA2011 Sandy Bridge E processors.

Features

  1. Worlds first “out of the box” triple fan CPU cooler
  2. Six W-DTH composite heatpipes for excellent heat transfer
  3. 100% nickel plated with blue LED fans for amazing aesthetics
  4. Dual heatsink design with VFP
  5. Compatible with Intel LGA2011/1155/1156/1366/775 and AMD FM1/AM3+/AM3/AM2+/AM2

Worlds first “out of the box” triple fan CPU cooler

There are some CPU coolers available on the market that can accommodate three fans, but to make this happen at least one additional fan needs to be purchased which adds to the expense. BUT, with the Zalman CNPS12X you get three 120mm blue LED fans built into the cooler so there are no extra costs. Also all three fans run off one fan header, making powering the fans extremely easy.

Six W-DTH composite heatpipes for excellent heat transfer

First seen on the CNPS11X, composite heatpipes help transfer the heat from the CPU up to 50% faster than standard heatpipes. This helps to increase the performance of the cooler even further. The six heatpipes are U-shaped, which effectively double the heat transfer compared to none U-shaped heatpipes.

At the base of the cooler (where the heatpipes make contact with the CPU) the heatpipes utilise what Zalman call Whole-Direct Touch Heatpipes (W-DTH). This allows the heatpipes to make direct contact with the CPU, another feature to help increase performance. But not only that, the area of the Direct Touch will cover the whole CPU. Even the new Intel CPUs for LGA2011 will also be covered by W-DTH.

100% nickel plated with blue LED fans for amazing aesthetics.

Most CPU coolers are hidden inside the computer case where they go about their business unseen. But if you like to show off the internals of your PC you may want a CPU cooler than looks the part and boy, the CNPS12X does look the part!

The entire heatsink of CNPS12X is plated with “Black-Pearl” nickel for long-term corrosion resistance, while the deep “Black-Pearl” tone, along with the high intensity from the blue LED fans helps this cooler stand head and shoulders above the rest.

Dual heatsink design with VFP

Attached to the U-shaped heatpipes are two optimised heatsink that feature VFP (Variable Fin Profile) technology. This maximises the performance through dual air-intake structure that increases the air flow.

Intel LGA2011/1366/1156/1155/775 and AMD FM1/AM3+/AM3/AM2+/AM2 compatible

Compatible with virtually all current desktop processors, even Intel’s latest LGA2011 is compatible out of the box. Check below for a flash video showing installation or alternatively you can read the manual by clicking the instructions link in the “Product Resources” box on the right.

Customer Reviews

Very nice but a little fiddly to install

,

Bought this as replacement for an NH-U12P SE2 which worked fine but just a tad too hot for the CPU under heavy gaming load (> 40 deg C) on a 95W Intel i5 2400 quad processor.

First impression: This fan is big! It doesn’t look that big in the picture but if you have not enough room around the CPU you will get stuck. Otherwise straight forward. The backplate is necessary and has the nice benefit that once in place it doesn’t fall off in case you have to take the fan out (as I had to) as the backplate gets stuck in place with the other side screws. It runs quite silent and can be even more silenced using the optional fan cable. The case fans (Noctua) are louder. Overall db level is no more than 30 db in a Corsair 600T Graphite case (this case has lots of mesh openings). So overall very pleased and the temperature under load is now less than 35 deg Celsius.

Little snags:

  • Power cables are not braided and “hang around” - also need to check that they do not touch the fans or memory sticks
  • The screws to attach the fan to the socket are hex screws - tool to screw them in is included but can be fiddly to reach when the motherboard is inside the case especially as I had to work around the second fan
  • only 3 pin power connector
  • first CPU fan had a broken ball bearing on one of the three fans - very unusual for Zalman (this is my fifth Zalman CPU fan which all worked very well) - replacing the fan with its brother (I ordered two NOT for this reason) became a bit of a struggle after tightening the screws well in the first place, unscrewing requires some leverage like a hollow metal rod attached to the delivered tool

Now that it is working it’s very fine and I can only recommend this fan for a high wattage processor.
