ASUS Triton 79 Amazing Series CPU Cooler

ASUS’ latest CPU cooler, the Triton 79 is their best yet. Dubbed “Amazing”, the cooler is presented in such a way it oozes quality. From gold-coloured mounting brackets to nickel-plated fins, the Triton 79 has everything you require from a CPU cooler and much more.

If you have purchased an aftermarket CPU cooler in the past you will know that the packaging is primarily designed to protect the cooler and its contents. Either frustratingly-moulded hard plastic or a simple cardboard box is generally used. Also, the parts are almost always presented in a sealed plastic bag. The Triton 79 Amazing could not be more different!

After removing the outer sleeve that displays a nice glossy image of the cooler and its specifications, you will be presented with something that looks like a golden coloured shoe-box, similar to the type of box you would expect your new £300 pair of Gucci shoes to be supplied in, if you could afford a pair! Once opened the first thing you will notice is the top of the Triton 79. The second thing you will notice is that the top of the foam is coated in velvet: quality!

Beneath the cooler is a small magnetically sealed box that houses the gold coloured mounting brackets, thermal paste, mounting screws and installation booklet. The box is filled with protective foam with cut-outs for the mounting brackets and thermal paste. Unlike other installation booklets where the instructions are printed on white paper with black text, the Triton 79’s is printed on black paper with silver text. These small differences again add to the quality of the product.

All this attention to detail regarding the presentation of the product is great, but like with many things in life it’s what’s inside that counts. Once you remove the Triton 79 heatsink from the packaging you will be bowled over by its looks, build quality and sheer size. Running from the base of the cooler are four copper U-shaped heatpipes with both ends connected to over 40 aluminium fins. These provide a massive amount of surface area to help dissipate the heat away from the CPU. The whole heatsink along with the heatpipes and the copper base is nickel plated which gives the cooler a high quality glossy feel.

Sandwiched between the fins is a 120 mm blue LED 4-pin PWM fan which rotates from 800 to 1300 RPM and produces a maximum noise level of only 19 dBA. In real life this means you will need to place your ear close to the cooler to be able to hear it. Yes it is that quiet!

The looks, finish, packaging and ease of installation mean nothing if the cooler cannot perform. ASUS would not go to all this trouble with the Triton 79 if it was unable to cool the latest CPUs with ease. In fact not only will it do that but it will also allow you to overclock your CPU. The Triton 79 supports Intel Core2 Extreme / Core2 Quad-Core CPUs (LGA775) and AMD Athlon 64 FX/X2 Dual-Core CPUs (socket 939/940/AM2/AM2+/1207+). With support for so many different socket types, the Triton 79 is ideal for anyone who wishes to cool their CPU system in style!
