Thermalright Ultra-120 EXTREME, Intel LGA775 CPU Heatpipe Heatsink

The Ultra-120 Extreme features a patent-pending design of the fins. In every corner of every fin, a winglet is created. This bending of the corners creates an increased air pressure and in return decreases air resistance, so even with a low RPM fan you get massive air flow through the fins. The user can attach any 120mm fan and watch those high CPU temperatures go way down. With a low fan RPM, the cooler is extremely quiet but performance remains, which is what you would expect from a high-end CPU cooler.

The cooler consists of five U-shaped heatpipes to transfer the heat from the base of the cooler up and through the attached fins, maximising the heat transfer. In addition, the winglet design mentioned earlier increases the fin surface area. Both these features translate into more cooling power.

Compatibility

Ultra-120 Extreme - Compatible with Intel LGA775 only.

It is recommended that you look at the Motherboard Compatibility Information for further information.

Xeon Compatibility

Thermalright have now increased the compatibility of the this cooler with the new Xeon compatible mounting kit. The kit is compatible with Intel Xeon LGA771, mPGA604 and Xeon 5000 and 7000. Finally we have a cooler that is compatible with the Xeon socket, so at last you can replace those noisy stock coolers! Just click here to view the product.

Reviews

  • Anandtech.com

With the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, the extra heatpipes do work, and they work very well. The improvements in cooling efficiency with the Ultra 120 Extreme over the Ultra 120 is nothing short of amazing. (Product reviewed: Ultra 120-Extreme)

  • PC Format

Massive and passive - this silent monster isn’t a bad bet for a media centre rig if you can fit it into the case.
