Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm 1150 RPM Cooling Fan
“High performance paired with low noise - that is what the new Gentle Typhoon fans developed by Nidec Servo Corp. are all about. ”
High Performance
The Gentle Typhoon achieves high airflow volume and low noise with the newly designed impeller, enabling silent cooling of the latest devices which run very hot.
Silent Operation
The Gentle Typhoon has a different type of tone. The fan propeller is designed to reduce the disturbing frequency fan noise to the human ear.
Innovative Technology
The newly designed motor and motor support mechanism uses a double vibration reduction structure. The new support mechanism uses coil dampers to greatly reduce vibration.

I bought this fan purely because it's quiet. I needed a rear exhaust fan but wanted to keep the system quiet as I have designed the system to be as quiet as possible so all that work would have been ruined by a noisy fan, but this is quieter than my cpu fan so it's perfect. Good air shifting ability too.
I installed this with anti-vibration screws/rubber thingies so I don't know how good it would be with normal screws but I am willing to bet pretty damn quiet.

I used a pair of these to cool my HTPC case, replacing the Antec tri-cool fans that it came with. Set them both blowing inwards and mounted on silicone gaskets also from Quiet PC. Now at last after trying various cooling solutions I have a silent HTPC ready to put into place in my new house.
The CPU is an AMD Athlon 235e energy efficient processor cooled by a Scythe Shuriken. The GPU is a Gainward GT240 which also is very quiet whilst remaining satisfactorily cool.
"No exhaust fan", I hear you comment. Unnecessary as the air blown in by the pair of fans will force warmer air out through the various vents.

Performs as described. Not cheap but worth paying for the lack of annoying noises! Delivery was very fast, thank you.
Slight problem: the fan I was replacing had rubber mounting pins. The screw shafts on this fan are more enclosed making it hard to pull the rubber pins through. I ended up using the case screws instead but since the fan runs nice and smooth it was not an issue.
Couple of tips:
1) the most dangerous part of a fan's journey is the last 3 feet from letterbox to floor! Since the package is small enough for the postie to push through, I recommend a strategically placed cushion.
2) even the best fans can make annoying noises if your motherboard controls their speed. I prefer to wire just the yellow and black to the fan header, so the motherboard can measure the speed, and use the Molex adapter to get power direct from the PSU.
