A GOOD, QUIET, 40MM FAN.

I replaced a noisy northbridge fan in my Shuttle with this Fractal Design 40mm unit. It's significantly quieter than the original fan and in isolation, almost silent, although in my installation there is a rattle from the northbridge heat sink that took a while to solve (not really the fan's fault).

After installation, the northbridge ran slightly warmer, but only by one or two degrees.

The power cable is extra long, which could be useful, but can also clutter up the case if you have nowhere to easily stow it.

All in all, a good example of a fan size difficult to quieten down. I don't mind admitting that with more space I would have installed one of the passive northbridge coolers.
